Godlings Faces - Quetzalcoatl

*I'll take your requests on which god or goddess to do next; see below!*

I've been developing my Godlings characters bit by bit, and most recently I've been sketching busts of them to work out their primary features and colors.  I'll be posting them here, proof that I really do make art! ...just not finished art very often.  These character busts were meant to give me a reason to design the various minor characters that appear in Godlings, but also as an exercise to practice making distinctly different faces, something that I know a lot of comic artists struggle with, especially when it comes to pretty women.  These do not take into account full costumes that they might be wearing; they're just the base character, for my reference.

Most of the busts I've done so far are women, therefore.  I will eventually be getting to all the male faces as well.  And of course the Egyptians with their animal heads are a whole other issue.

Is this full circle?  It feels like it!  One of my first Godlings gods, and now practically the poster boy for the project.  And so, like with Tezcatlipoca who is one of my faves, Quetz gets a more cleaned up, finished sketch.  He's the first character you see, and he's the guy who gets the plot ball rolling.  Everyone loves the ol' feathered serpent, which is one of the reasons he was chosen to break into Olympus and try to steal the horns of ambrosia and nectar in the first place.  (In Godlings, the strength of a god is fairly dependent on the popularity of the religion or the deity.  Not an original concept, but what is, these days?)

If you've been following me for an inadvisably long time and actually remember all my previous drawings of Quetz here, you may realize his design is updated once again.  He is paler (as he was generally associated with lightness and was often described as light-skinned, something i should have researched WAY back in the beginning) and his feathery hair has now got a bit more style to it.  Instead of a wishy-washy nebula of rainbow colors, he's got those nifty red and orange streaks that mimic his (brand new, also updated) snake form's design, and he has stiffer, scale-like feather shapes at his forehead, also mimicking his snake form.  Other than that, though, he's pretty much my same ol' Quetz.  I liked his design, and I haven't strayed far from it.

As I said before, if you've got a favorite amongst the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Norse, the Celtic, the Hindu, or the Aztec pantheons, let me know!  I might have them down as appearing in Godlings, and if so, I'll take requests as to which bust sketches (like these) to make next!

He looks fantastic! I love the feathered hair, and that's one fierce look on his face! The eyes and the tattoos look wonderful, too!
