Dream King 3, READ THIRD

Description

Here is page 3 of my short Sandman-inspired “children’s” story that I completed for class this weekend, and here is page 3 of the story to go with the picture…

The room was very big, and very beautiful, just like the rest of the castle. And there in the middle was a grand throne at the top of a short flight of stairs. And in his throne sat the Dream King, his dark robes flowing around him. He looked at the little girl with a small smile and then spoke to her in a calm, kind voice.
“You may come closer, child. I will not harm you.”
The little girl thought he was rather silly, then. Of course he wouldn’t harm her. What kind of king or prince would he be if he did? She walked all the way up to his throne and looked up at him.
“Are you the king?” she asked eagerly.
“Yes,” he replied, “I am.”
“Where is your crown?”
“I am not wearing it today. Sometimes it is very heavy. But I am the king of this land nevertheless. What can I do for you?”
“Can you make me a princess?” she asked.
“Perhaps. For a little while,” he said.
“I’d really like that!” she said. Then she frowned. “Um… your majesty? If you’re the king, then where is your queen?”

I think that this has to be my favourite page of the story. Aside from the contrasts between gloomy Morpheus and the happy little girl (also shown through the symbolism of bright colours and butterflies), I love how the lilies overlap with the borderline for this page at the bottom (like the banners at the top).

Also, that's a really nice way how you translated the sigils in the background. It makes this feel much more like a well-illustrated children's story!
